About us

Mønsted Kalkgruber is an independent institution which was established in 1997. The purpose is to run and develop a dissemination business that tells about the geological, biological and cultural history of the place.

Mønsted Kalkgruber is the world's largest man-made limestone pit with large caves, trickling streams and underground lakes. It is said that it runs as much as 60 km. times in the area. In Mønsted Kalkgruber you can walk for 4 km. times, of which the 2 km. is stated.

Mønsted Kalkgruber is a wintering place for over 10,000 bats. Due to their hibernation period, the lime pits are closed during the winter from 1 November to 1 April.
